This sort of treatment has never frightened me and it fostered in me a determination never to give in.

To my mind this meant that Da was coming to visit and I grew excited too. I also heard some talk of America and that he would be driving a big red American car. I rushed from the house to tell all my pals that my da was coming from America and would be driving a big red American car, just like a movie star. This was a really big deal for all of us, as this was a time when none of us even knew anyone who had a car. I was honest with Christine and told her how I earned my living.
