Uncertain quality of welded joint and unpleasant view, both depended on welders knowledge and skill, pressed the customers and producers to define minimum quality level for welded structures, and radiography, that time the only available non-destructive testing (NDT) method for reliable detection of eventual defects was applied. Simultaneously with development of new and improvement of already existing welding processes, the NDT methods were broadly developed and introduced, capable to document detected defects and verify welding quality.
